Bars & Restaurants in the British Virgin Islands

The BVI’s culinary scene is as diverse as its anchorages. From sand-floor beach bars and grilled-lobster shacks on Anegada to fine dining at Virgin Gorda’s resorts and historic plantation restaurants on Tortola, eating ashore here is an event in itself. Here are the spots we send our charter guests to time and again.

Tortola

Sugar Mill Restaurant, Tortola
Tortola's dining scene runs from waterfront classics to historic plantation tables.

The Sugar Mill Restaurant in Apple Bay is one of Tortola’s most iconic fine dining restaurants, set within a beautifully restored 17th-century sugar mill and known for its romantic candlelit atmosphere, Caribbean flavours, and fresh local seafood. Nearby, Tramonti offers authentic Italian dining with handmade pastas, wood-fired pizzas, and elevated Mediterranean cuisine overlooking the ocean.

On Tortola’s south coast, Brandywine Estate Restaurant is renowned for elegant Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, fresh seafood, and panoramic views across Sir Francis Drake Channel. Over in Carrot Bay, D’CoalPot is celebrated for authentic Caribbean cooking and traditional island dishes, while Asia Garden offers popular Asian cuisine in the heart of Road Town.

For a relaxed beachfront dining experience, Indigo House is a favourite among both visitors and locals in Cane Garden Bay. Set right on the beach, it’s known for excellent cocktails, fresh island flavours, and a lively yet laid-back atmosphere. The menu is consistently popular — especially the fish tacos — making it an ideal spot for long lunches, sunset drinks, or dinner by the water. Reservations are highly recommended, particularly during peak season.

Outer Islands

Pirates Bight, Norman Island
Pirates Bight blends sandy toed beach bars with polished resort dining.

In the British Virgin Islands’ outer cays, dining takes on a relaxed, barefoot luxury feel where the sea is always just steps away. On Norman Island, Pirates Bight sits right on the beach in The Bight, offering casual island dining, sunset cocktails, and front-row access to one of the most legendary anchorages in the Caribbean.

Further east on Cooper Island, Cooper Island Beach Club is a must-visit eco-chic beachfront restaurant and rum bar. Known for its relaxed elegance, craft cocktails, and oceanfront dining just steps from the sand, it’s a favourite stop for yachts exploring the southern islands.

Together, these outer island venues capture the essence of a British Virgin Islands yacht charter — unspoilt anchorages, barefoot dining, and unforgettable sunset moments over the water.

Anegada

Anegada Beach Club
Anegada is famous for grilled lobster on the beach as the sun goes down.

Anegada is famous for one thing above all: fresh-grilled lobster on the beach. Anegada Beach Club on the windward side is a stylish base for the day, with rooms, beach lounge service and excellent food.

Potter’s by the Sea is the classic west-end choice for table-on-the-sand lobster suppers, and the island has half a dozen other family-run beach shacks all worth a stop. Order ahead in the morning so the lobster’s ready when you sit down.

Jost Van Dyke

Hendo's Hideout, Jost Van Dyke
Jost Van Dyke and the surrounding islets are home to the BVI's most legendary beach bars.

Hendo’s Hideout in White Bay is one of Jost Van Dyke’s most popular beachfront spots, known for elevated beach club dining, frozen cocktails, and front-row views of the island’s famous turquoise water. Just steps along the sand, Soggy Dollar Bar is the legendary birthplace of the Painkiller cocktail and remains one of the British Virgin Islands’ most iconic beach bars.

In Great Harbour, Foxy’s Tamarind Bar is a Caribbean institution, famous for live music, lively nights, barbecue dinners, and its authentic laid-back island atmosphere. Nearby, Tipsy Shark offers a more modern waterfront setting with fresh seafood, creative cocktails, and panoramic harbour views perfect for sunset dining.

Whether arriving by yacht for lunch in White Bay or spending the evening bar hopping through Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke delivers the quintessential BVI beach bar experience — relaxed, vibrant, and unmistakably Caribbean.

Virgin Gorda & North Sound

Saba Rock, North Sound
Tiny island outposts and harbour-side tables make for unforgettable BVI evenings.

In Virgin Gorda’s North Sound, Saba Rock has reclaimed its place as one of the British Virgin Islands’ most iconic waterfront destinations following its beautiful rebuild. Surrounded entirely by turquoise water, the restaurant and bar offer a lively atmosphere, fresh seafood, craft cocktails, and panoramic views across the Sound.

Nearby, The Mangrove Restaurant delivers a more relaxed yet refined dining experience, combining Caribbean flavours, fresh local ingredients, and a stylish marina setting in the heart of North Sound. Popular with both yacht guests and visitors staying ashore, it’s an excellent stop for long lunches, sunset cocktails, or elegant dinners overlooking the water.

Across the islands, CocoMaya remains one of the BVI’s standout beachfront restaurants, blending Asian and Latin-inspired cuisine with creative cocktails, fire pits, and spectacular sunset views directly on the sand.
